How to send a letter in Denmark in 2026
Updated
Short answer
Since PostNord stopped delivering letters at the end of 2025, dao delivers letters in Denmark. You can buy postage from dao and drop the letter off at a daoSHOP, send it registered through dao, or let Postly print, envelope and post it for you from DKK 69 incl. VAT.
New to Denmark, or not sure how letters work here now? The red postboxes are gone, and the way you send a letter has changed. Here are the three ways, what they cost, and when each one makes sense.
This guide is general information, not advice. You are responsible for what you send.
Up to 5 A4 pages included, then DKK 5 per page. All prices include VAT.
Send a letter online1. Buy postage from dao
dao's price list says a standard letter up to 100 grams costs DKK 23 and up to 250 grams DKK 46.
You do the rest yourself: write and print the letter, put it in an envelope with the recipient's address on the front, buy a postage code (brevkode) at send.dao.as or in dao's app, write the code in the top right corner of the envelope, and drop the letter in the red dao box in a daoSHOP.
This makes sense if you have a printer and envelopes, and you do not need proof of delivery.
2. Send it registered through dao
According to dao, a registered letter costs from DKK 210, plus your own printing and envelope. You print the letter yourself and hand it in at a daoSHOP, where the hand-in is recorded.
This makes sense when you need to document sending and delivery, for example when you give notice. Read more about registered letters.
3. Send it online with Postly
A standard letter costs DKK 69 and a registered letter DKK 289, both incl. VAT, printing, envelope and postage. You upload a PDF or type the text, fill in sender and recipient, and Postly prints, envelopes and hands the letter to dao.
This makes sense when you have no printer or envelopes, or no time for a trip to a shop.
How to address the letter
Write the recipient's name, street and house number, any floor and side (for example 2. tv.), and the postcode and city. Always include your own address, so the letter can be returned if the recipient has moved. Writing to a company or an authority? Put the case number or an att. name at the top of the letter.
How it works with Postly
You need no printer, envelopes, stamps or account, and ordering takes a few minutes.
- Upload a PDF, or type the text directly. The letter can be in English or any other language.
- Fill in sender and recipient. We only send to addresses in Denmark.
- Choose a standard or a registered letter.
- Pay by card or MobilePay. We print the letter, put it in an envelope and post it.
When is the letter posted?
If the letter is paid before noon on a weekday, we hand it to dao the same day. Otherwise we post it the next weekday. After that, dao's delivery times apply. We cannot guarantee a specific delivery day, and Postly is not part of dao.
What happens to your document?
Your document is sent over an encrypted connection and stored encrypted with our data processor in the EU. Only the person who prints the letter sees the file. It is deleted automatically 7 days after sending.
